Tasting Notes
Our 2019 Syrah starts with a deep purple hue in the glass. Aromas of red velvet cake, chocolate ganache, raspberry crème de cassis, roasted black plum, sugared violets and crushed red peppercorns. The palate is full of rich fruit tones with big, lush well-integrated tannins. The finish is smooth and beautifully balanced. This is an absolutely delicious wine.
Vineyard Notes
2019 was a very warm and beautiful vintage. Bud break was slightly delayed with cooler spring temperatures, which in turn delayed harvest by about two weeks on average. The additional hang time into fall allowed for a deep development of flavors in the finished wines.
Winemaker Notes
The Morningsong Vineyard Syrah was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted by hand both in the vineyard and in the winery. 20% whole cluster was added to the tank before destemming the rest and putting it together. We did a 10% saignee to concentrate the flavors in the final Syrah and then let it cold soak for 4 days before inoculating and allowing it to ferment for another 12 days. The wine was drained and pressed straight to a mix of new and used French oak barrels and allowed to age for 15 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
