I studied chemistry for more years than I care to count and then spent 20 years in teaching and corporate research.

My first foray into winemaking was when we were living in Saratoga, California. I decided to plant 150 Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1994 to solve a landscaping problem and then crush a half ton of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in our garage.

In making wine, I discovered a whole new pursuit that combines my quest for learning with an opportunity to share winemaking with a new and appreciative audience.

I turned over the day to day winemaking in 2011 to our winemaker Ashley Herzberg. I now get to make decisions but don't have to do any hard work. It also leaves time for daily walks and frequent play sessions with our two Shelties, Torin and Dylan.
