Amista 2012 Zinfandel Gene's Block

Take me to current releases

The Gene’s Block Zinfandel starts right out with layers of fruit: fresh ripe blueberry, sweet strawberry and blackberry jam are layered with a delicate spice and floral note. The palate is also bursting with fruit from start to finish. The black cherry and blackberry are complemented by a rich mouthfeel and silky tannins on the front and mid-palate, but even on the finish, the blackberry and boysenberry characters remain. A very classic Dry Creek Zinfandel!

Vineyard Notes
2012 was a winemaker’s dream vintage. Everything from bud break to harvest went incredibly well in Dry Creek Valley. Spring rains were present but mild enough that they did not affect bloom. Summer temperatures were warm, but not hot enough to sunburn
Winemaker Notes
The Saini Vineyards Gene’s Block Zinfandel was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted once in the vineyard and once in the winery before being destemmed and left whole berry to go into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 12 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to neutral oak barrels where it completed malolactic and was racked twice in the 18 months before being bottled.
