The Rockpile AVA produces hearty reds - highly coveted since there are only a dozen growers in the region. Our 2014 vintage is fruit forward with deep concentrated blackberry and boysenberry complemented by more subtle black cherry and a touch of roasted strawberry jam. It opens up to big, broad tannins that are bold and balanced. Pair with pink peppercorn crusted tri-tip or any of your favorite grilled meats.

Terraza Vineyards is high on a steep rocky hillside in the Rockpile appellation overlooking the Dry Creek Valley.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Rockpile is such a special appellation. From the proximity to the coast, sitting above the fog line and the steeply terraced vines, one can see where the immense flavors and intensity in the wines originate.
Winemaker Notes
2014 was another dream harvest. It was a dry, warm growing season with a smaller crop size. The harvest was a little earlier than usual. This Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested first thing in the morning by hand from the incredibly steep, terraced hillside. The grapes were hand sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery before being crushed and destemmed. The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 18 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to 25% new French oak and the remainder used oak barrels where it completed malolactic and was racked twice in the 22 months before being bottled.
