Amista 2021 Zinfandel Gene's Block

Amista 2021 Zinfandel Gene's Block

Savor aromas of raspberry coulis, briar and black currant as you swirl this beauty in your glass. The flavors are earthy and complex with raspberry fruit and hints of lemon verbena. The finish is bright and lingering. This is a vintage to enjoy over the next five years or more, although you’ll want to drink it all now.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our 2021 Zinfandel has aromas of chewy dried black cherry, hints of fresh blackberry and lots of black pepper spice. The palate has lots of fruit up front with vanilla, earth, spice and sandalwood notes on the mid palate and finish. Dried and fresh fruit tones abound in this wine. The finish is layered and complex with delicate tannins and good acidity, finishing with complexity and depth.
Vineyard Notes
2021 was a beautiful vintage. The winter was quite dry with far lower than average rainfalls but we had a few spring rains that helped us out. The growing season was warm but very even and without any adverse weather events. We picked slighlty earlier than average but because of the very small crop this vintage, flavors are intense and concentrated. The grapes com from a nearby neighbor, the Saini family. Grown on a bench in Dry Creek Valley, their property, sun exposure and soil type are ideal for growing Zinfandel.
Winemaker Notes
Our Zinfandel is hand picked and thoroughly sorted in the vineyard before coming to the winery and being destemmed and put into an open top tank. After a 5 day cold soak, the fermentation starts and the wine ferments on skins for 13 days before being drained and pressed to a tank for 24 hours of settling and then down to barrels for aging for 16 months.
