Our 2020 Morningsong Vineyard Chardonnay starts with aromas of ripe white nectarine, toasted hazelnuts, honeysuckle, seashells, and gardenia. The palate is stone fruit driven with white peach dominating plus some ripe Bosc pear flavors. The fruit flavors continue through the finish and linger on the palate along with just a hint of acidity.
2020 was a vintage to remember. From early on in 2020, the vintage was quite warm. Bud break and set happened very smoothly, and the crop size was considerably smaller after two large vintages. In the vineyard, all our varietals were concentrated in yields but delicious in flavors.
We picked our Chardonnay grapes by hand starting at daybreak and hand sorted in the vineyard. From the vineyard the grapes went directly to the winery and into the press. The juice went straight from the press into neutral French oak barrels for a three-week fermentation. After fermentation, the barrels were topped up and left on primary lees for the duration of its life until bottling. After 11 months in barrel, the barrels were combined into a tank and bottled.
