Our 2016 Syrah is another knock-out vintage showcasing the beauty and nuance of Dry Creek Valley Syrah. The aromas are complex with notes of bright raspberry mingled with smoky bacon. All-spice is the predominant spice mixed with vanilla, cardamom and a touch of black pepper. The palate is raspberry and cherry fruit with lush tannins and a soft, sweeping mouthfeel.

Vineyard Notes
2016 finally brought much needed rain to Sonoma County, temporarily ending our drought woes. The water helped the vines immensely and we had a beautiful growing season from bloom to harvest. The crop size was about average. Flavors were really beautiful overall from this vintage as well. This year was definitely a standout.
Winemaker Notes
The Morningsong Vineyard Syrah was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted both in the vineyard and in the winery before being destemmed and left whole berry and put into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 15 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to 25% new French and American oak and the remainder to neutral oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation. It was racked once in the 15 months before being bottled.
