The 2014 Gene’s Block Zinfandel starts with bright fruit notes of blackberry, black cherry and fresh strawberry. There are hints of black pepper and a touch of jam. Jammy blackberry explodes on the palate, followed by rich, soft tannins and a full and creamy finish. There is a hint of acidity to finish it out. This wine will be delicious with short ribs or just on its own.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
2014 was another dream harvest. It was a dry, warm growing season with a smaller crop size. The harvest was a little earlier than usual.
Winemaker Notes
The Saini Vineyards Gene’s Block Zinfandel was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted once in the vineyard and once in the winery before being destemmed and left whole berry to go into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 12 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to neutral oak barrels where it completed malolactic and was racked twice in the 18 months before being bottled.
