What a difference one vintage makes! This wine still has the hints of licorice, white pepper and mint that we love from the 2011, but these characters are complemented by black cherry, blackberry and some earthiness. The riper year definitely brings out the fruitier side of this vineyard. On the palate, blackberry and cassis take the center stage, with subtle flavors of cardamom and clove. The delicate acidity is a nice foil to the intensity of flavors in this wine.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
2012 was a winemaker’s dream vintage. Everything from bud break to harvest went incredibly well in Dry Creek Valley. Spring rains were present but mild enough that they did not affect bloom. Summer temperatures were warm, but not hot enough to sunburn
Winemaker Notes
The Saini Vineyards The Hill Block Zinfandel was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. This vineyard sits on a steep West facing hillside in Dry Creek Valley and the harvest crew was very experienced in picking in such challenging conditions. The grapes were sorted in the vineyard and again in the winery before being de-stemmed and left whole berry to go into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 4 days to extract maximum flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 14 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to neutral oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation and was racked twice in the 18 months before being bottled.
