Our 2012 Chardonnay starts out with white peach, nectarine, and a hint of citrus on the nose. On the palate, the rich stone fruit continues, with a round and full mid-palate and a balanced acidity to finish it off. Like our previous vintages of Amista Chardonnay, we do not use any new oak barrels, so the fruitiness of the Chardonnay grape is the true focus. This wine is balanced and beautiful.

Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
2012 was a winemaker’s dream vintage. Everything from bud break to harvest went incredibly well in Dry Creek Valley. Spring rains were present but mild enough that they did not affect bloom. Summer temperatures were warm, but not hot enough to sunburn any grapes. The crop size was huge, but quality was so high that the large quantity of grapes was happily welcomed.
Winemaker Notes
havvested in two lots; 8/27/2012 - Lemonade Block 9/26/2012 - classic block; We picked the grapes for our Chardonnay in two separate lots: a newer planting of Wente Clone Chardonnay, and an older block of Chardonnay. They were picked almost a month apart, but both were picked in the early morning hours and hand sorted in the vineyard first before being brought to the winery and gently whole-cluster pressed. The juice settled for 24 hours in tank before going down to all neutral barrels, where, between the two lots, we used 4 different types of yeast. After fermentation, the barrels were topped up and put through malolactic fermentation. The wine was kept separate, on the lees, until a few weeks before bottling when the two lots were blended together for the first time before going to bottle.
