November Amista Friends of the Month Newsletter!

Here at Amista, we like to take the time to honor our Wine Club members as each and every one continue to stay passionate about our wines and we love to hear the stories of sharing with friends and family.

These are Club members who we have special relationships with, and who visit us from the local area to those from other states. Once a month we feature Amista Friends of the Month in our monthly newsletter. For accepting this invitation, they receive additional benefits, like extra savings on wine, food pairings, and other treats during the month. We do this every month, and reach out to Club members asking if they would like to participate. So keep an eye out in your inbox to see if you have been nominated!

For the month of November, we are featuring Lisa and Joe who live here in the Sonoma area and who have been members since August of 2017. They are members of our Circle of Friends Club and for a toast of bubbles with their family and friends over the Holidays, they are members of our December Sparkling Add-On Club. They are frequent visitors to Amista, always bringing friends and family. We have had the pleasure of having their son, Chris join our staff here in the Tasting Room over the Summer and occasionally, Lisa and Joe step in and help out with our events!

We here at Amista appreciate their continued passion and loyalty for our wines.

Below is their story!

Becoming a Member and our Favorite Amista Memory:

Lisa and I, we moved our family to Sonoma County in August of 2017. Amista was the first winery we visited, and wish we had discovered it years before. We became members as soon as we first visited. The feeling of being welcomed into the Amista Family was instantaneous, and the wines speak for themselves. We particularly love the full bodied Zins, the amazing Rockpile Cabernet, and luscious sparkling wines.

Favorite Amista Wine and Food Pairing:

One of our favorite pairings (besides the Sparkling Syrah with turkey and cranberry sauce!) is to pair the Sparkling Grenache with some freshly shucked Hog Island Oysters. I will even splash a little of the Sparkling Grenache into the oyster prior to slurping!  One of our favorites is a recipe for a great tomato and smoked pork ragu that features the Gene's Block Zin. The smoked pork is what gives this sauce its "oomph." I prefer to use ribs because they have some fat, and that carries a good amount of the smoke flavor into the sauce. I smoke the ribs (half rack) for about 90 minutes and add them to the sauce whole. They will continue to cook in the sauce and the rib bones will add some wonderful flavor as well. Just take them out and shred the meat into the sauce and discard the bones prior to serving. Of course, any pork will do, and a simple loin will simplify the process. This sauce is fantastic over almost any pasta, but I prefer it over a good quality penne or rigatoni. It goes amazingly well with the Zinfandel. A match made in hog heaven!

For a more "big and savory" dish, serve this Tomato and Smoked Pork Ragu with nothing other than our Gene's Block Zinfandel. A great meal to share with friends, and a great wine to raise your glass to! Saludo!
