Vicky & Mike, Proprietors

When we started out together, we never knew we'd end up living in Sonoma's beautiful Dry Creek Valley surrounded by our own vineyards. The creation of Amista Vineyards enables us to discover a satisfying and stimulating life, connected to the land and engaged in a business that cultivates friendship. ~Vicky and Mike Farrow

Mike And Vicky Owners Amista Vineyards

Mike, Owner & Winemaker Emeritus

I studied chemistry for more years than I care to count and then spent 20 years in teaching and corporate research. My first foray into winemaking was when we were living in Saratoga, California. I decided to plant 150 Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1994 to solve a landscaping problem and then crush a half ton of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in our garage. In making wine, I discovered a whole new pursuit that combines my quest for learning with an opportunity to share winemaking with a new and appreciative audience. I turned over the day to day winemaking in 2011 to our winemaker Ashley Herzberg. I now get to make decisions but don't have to do any hard work. It also leaves time for daily walks and frequent play sessions with our two Shelties, Torin and Dylan.

Vicky, Owner & CEO

I started with an education in psychology - pretty much useless for getting a job - which led me to explore breakthrough leadership and a career as an executive in several large corporations. Following my corporate career, I became an executive coach helping CEOs and their teams build the leadership skills they need to achieve top performance. The winery has catapulted me into a leadership role that is both challenging and exhilarating. I love crafting our business strategy and managing marketing as well as supervising daily vineyard inspections with our Shelties, Torin and Dylan.

Amista Wine Dog, Torin

Wine Dog Torin At AmistaTorin, a Shetland Sheep Dog (Sheltie), came to live with us as a 10 week old puppy in August 2011.  His Celtic name means thunder, which is an apt description of this noisy boy.  He spends his time barking, monitoring the vineyards for jack rabbits and teaching Mike to play fetch.  He says Mike is getting better every day.

Amista Wine Dog, Dylan

Wine Dog Dylan At AmistaDylan is the newest Sheltie in our family, born on April 5, 2014.  His name means "streak of light" and between him and Torin, we certainly do have lightening and thunder.  They have become best buddies and spend their time wrestling, chasing and pilfering tomatoes.
